Pond yacht plans free
The boat would be better off with the patina lift in situ and used as a display. You can always build a copy if you wish to have a pond yacht you can sail. An interesting fact concerning Pond Yachts is that the Ted Geary R class sloop "Pirate" was sent to Larchmont in 1929 to compete in the R Boat Nationals with famed West Coast skipper Matt Walsh at her helm. The fact is that much of the cost for funding "Pirates" expenses were raised by the selling of pond yacht kits of "Pirate" and donations gathered by school children who also built models.
The winner of the pond yacht competition was said to have been given a free trip to Larchmont to view the races and also was taken for a sail on that famous R classs sloop. "Pirate" now fully restored can be seen at the Center for Wooden Boats in Seattle along with a few of her pond yacht models. Plans for the pond yachts are available at the Center. Incidentally, in 1929 "Pirate" swept the field and brought the R Boat trophy home to the West Coast. It has been said that Matt Walsh never lost a race!
